The Great Cat Macre?

The account of the great cat macre written by Nicolas Contat. This macre of cats took place in the printing shop of Jacques Vincent in Paris in the 1730s. This was a very strange event. Not only will the printers kill many cats on the night of the massacre, but they will also re-enact the events of that night at least twenty-times, as a form of entertainment. In the printers' minds, what was happening? Why was it happening? What did it mean to them? Search the text of the doent for possible clues, related to the historical context, (including class conflict, witchcraft, carnival, and uality) of the event.
